I have owned this book (in the 1908 printing) for many years and still love to read the poems in it. It's too bad, from what the previous reviewer says, if there is no table of contents in the kindle version. My edition has both a table of contents and an index by first lines (in the back). I don't own the exact edition shown here and don't know if the publisher made changes to the book when they reprinted it or if the kindle version is different.
This is a book available to all because of copyright expiration. It lacks the finish of a modern book published for profit. However, it is a simple collection of some of the greatest poems ever written and each is a point of reference still for modern media. My sons (8 & 1) weren't enthralled and I didn't expect them to be. Yet, when they look back I hope they will retain the memory of ideas expressed beautifully. These are best enjoyed out loud with loved ones of any age. It's certainly worth the price.
Some of these poems I learned from my Mother who had them memorized from childhood. Reading them makes me think of my Mother. Many of these poems tell the history of America.
there is no table of contents and no way to navigate without moving forward page by page. renders the kinde version nearly useless. far less convenient than a book.
The poems are nice but there was not as many childrens poems that were short and easy for my children to appriciate. I would not say these are especially great poems for every child to know...
I enjoyed reading the poems with my son. However, the index is totally wrong..... looks like the index is for another book.
Need a better editor....
I agree with the negative review for version of this book the formatting is nonexistent, and in some spots it is even difficult to discern where the editor's comments end and the poem begins. However, the poems chosen are excellent, and the introductions are usually insightful, or at least interesting. I would still recommend this to users; one can still easily search for a poet or a line. And I enthusiastically recommend the book version.
